Purnululu National Park was officially declared a national park in 1987, but its discovery goes back much further. The area was known to the local Kija Aboriginal people for thousands of years before European settlement, but it wasn't until the 1980s that its unique geological formations and stunning natural beauty were brought to the attention of the wider world.
