Just 90 minutes from Melbourne, Phillip Island is a captivating blend of rugged coastlines, abundant wildlife, and laid-back charm. This 10,000-hectare island, fringed by the crashing waves of Bass Strait, is a photographer’s haven—renowned for its Little Penguins and dramatic ocean vistas.

One of my favourite spots on the island is the Pinnacles near Cape Woolamai. Chasing the perfect shot as the sun set, golden rays lit up the jagged rock formations, casting long shadows across the surf. It’s an incredible place, just a short walk from the Woolamai Surf Beach car park. During summer, the walk down via the beach and headland is made even more special by the sight of thousands of shearwaters nesting—an unforgettable experience.

A visit to The Nobbies is another highlight, where boardwalks wind along the rugged coastline. The views of Seal Rocks and the vast Southern Ocean are breathtaking, with fur seals lounging on the rocks below. Interpretive signs along the way reveal the area’s unique ecology, making the walk both scenic and informative. It’s the perfect spot to pause and soak in the island’s wild beauty.

Cowes, the island’s largest town, offers calm beaches for soaking up the sun and plenty of shops to restock your supplies.
